Oberlin Club of Washington, DC: Allen Memorial Art Museum Virtual Exhibition Tour

Please join us on Thursday, August 20, at 5:30 pm (Eastern) for a Zoom presentation on the Allen Memorial Art Museum (AMAM) exhibition Ukiyo-e Prints from the Mary Ainsworth Collection. The prints are part of an important 1950 bequest of circa 1,500 works from Mary Ainsworth, an Oberlin College alumna of the class of 1889.

All registrants will receive an email with information on how to access the event.

Exhibit Information: A cornerstone of the AMAM's renowned Asian art collection, the works are well-known to print scholars. Two hundred of the prints toured three venues in Japan in 2019 (the museums in Chiba, Shizuoka, and Osaka) and are now back in Oberlin. A selection was on view briefly before the AMAM's closure due to Covid-19, and will be seen again during the fall semester.

Dr. Kevin R. E. Greenwood, the museum's Joan L. Danforth Curator of Asian Art, will talk with us about the exhibition and the richness and complexity of Japan's print tradition, as well as aspects of Mary Ainsworth's life.

Dr. Andria Derstine, Director of the AMAM, will provide a brief overview of the AMAM, discuss what goes into organizing a complex international show, and update us on plans to welcome students back to the museum.
