A Gathering of the DC Oberlin Community and a Welcome to the Class of 2029
Time for our local version of Illumination as we gather to celebrate our Oberlin family and welcome local members of the incoming Class of 2029! We again will feature gelato, including a vegan option! If you’re coming, please register to help us prepare. If you can assist at the event, please sign up. In addition, to reduce our footprint on the environment, please bring a container with your own water.
The event is named in memory of Walter Behr ’39, the longtime Mayor of Somerset who for many years welcomed us to the Town Hall. We also are grateful to Maya Weil ’86 who again serves as our sponsor for this event, and to Suzanne Ludlow ’81 who made the arrangements for the gelato.

This year, the Club honors Barbara Wolanin ’66 and will present her with our annual award that recognizes a local alum who has been a friend to Oberlin and to members of the Oberlin community. Barbara was Curator for the Architect of the Capitol for 30 years and was responsible for the care and restoration of all the buildings and grounds on Capitol Hill. During her career and in retirement, she has generously led tours of the Capitol and given talks that have expanded alumni understanding of and appreciation for the art and history related to the Capitol. Recent graduate Julian Cross ’25 will create an award based on a campus location that has special meaning to Barbara. Come and see what Julian has created!
