Oberlin College is excited to welcome the Class of 2020 back to campus for a class celebration and special commencement ceremony on Saturday, October 16. In addition to a day filled with dedicated events for the Class of 2020, class members are also invited to participate in Homecoming activities taking place over the weekend.

CLASS OF 2020 GRADUATION CELEBRATION SCHEDULE | Saturday, October 16

10:00 – 11:00 AM Class of 2020 Welcome Breakfast
Members of the Class of 2020 are encouraged to enjoy an upscale continental breakfast with classmates as they begin the day. Location: Carnegie Building

11:00 – 11:30 AM Pre-Ceremony Check-in
Graduates will check in at the AARC Office (101 N. Professor St.) and receive instructions about where to line up for the commencement processional.

Noon Special Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony
Graduates will take part in a special ceremony to celebrate their graduation from Oberlin College. The ceremony will include a commencement address from President Carmen Twillie Ambar and remarks from class representative Naeisha McClain '20. Location: Tappan Square

Please note that ceremony registration is separate from other Class of 2020 Graduation Celebration activities.

1:30 – 2:30 PM Unity Celebration
Alumni, faculty, and staff are welcomed to join the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC), enjoy light refreshments, and celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2020. The reception will begin with a few words from our featured speakers, followed by a toast. Additional information will be distributed by the Multicultural Resource Center. Location: Wilder Bowl

1:30 – 3:00 PM Black Family Appreciation Ceremony and Luncheon
An Africana Studies Department commencement tradition, the ceremony and luncheon will feature speakers, performances, and lunch for Black identifying 2020 alumni, their loved ones, as well as faculty, staff, and students who worked closely with them. Additional information will be distributed by the Africana Studies Department. Location: South Bowl

1:30 – 3:00 PM Homecoming Tailgate sponsored by the Heisman Club
Join classmates, family members, friends, other alumni, and current students at the Homecoming Tailgate. Members of the Class of 2020 and their guests are welcome. Location: Austin E. Knowlton Athletic Complex

6:00 – 7:30 PM Social Hour and Toast to the Class of 2020 hosted by President Ambar
Graduates and their families are invited to the President’s House to share time with President Ambar, Dean Bill Quillen, Dean David Kamitsuka, and other members of Oberlin’s senior staff. In addition to enjoying hors d’oeuvres, guests will be invited to participate in a special toast to the Class of 2020 given by President Ambar. Location: President’s House, 154 Forest Street

7:00 – 10:00 PM Class of 2020 Wilder Bowl Party
The Class of 2020 celebration concludes with music, food, dancing, and drinks on the north end of Wilder Bowl as Oberlin College celebrates and congratulates the Class of 2020. Class members and their families/guests are welcome! Location: Wilder Bowl

11:30 PM Last Shuttle to Sheraton Cleveland Airport Hotel

SPECIAL CLASS OF 2020 COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY | Saturday, October 16 - 12 PM

ACCOMMODATIONS
We understand it can be expensive to return to campus. To reduce the cost of attending, Oberlin has coordinated room accommodations with the Sheraton Cleveland Airport Hotel. The college will provide ONE (1) free hotel night, either on October 15 or October 16, exclusively for the personal use of each member of the Class of 2020 returning for the celebration.

Additionally, the college negotiated a discounted rate of $99 per night (plus taxes and fees) for members of the Oberlin Class of 2020 who want to stay a second night, subject to availability. If you stay one night (either October 15 or October 16), it will be provided to you by Oberlin; if you stay TWO (2) nights (October 15 and 16) your first night will be complimentary and you will be able to obtain the second night at the discounted rate, subject to reservation deadlines and availability.

Hotel reservations need to be made by members of the Class of 2020 using the special link below. Please note you will need to provide a credit card number to reserve your room. Guests are responsible for incidental expenses.

ACADEMIC REGALIA
Academic regalia is optional; however, class members are welcome to wear caps and gowns for the ceremony. Graduates are encouraged to bring their mortarboards and tassels–previously mailed to them as part of their graduation packages–to wear during the ceremony.
