Oberlin Club of San Francisco Bay Area: Tidepool Tour

Join fellow Obies for a naturalist-led tour by Ed Milner '79 at the J V Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. We'll be visiting at low tide. Within the tidepool area, there are sea urchins, anemone, hermit crabs, and many species of mollusks. Depending on the day, harbor seals may be seen sunning on the rocks further seaward.

DETAILS:
11:15 a.m. – Please plan to arrive
11:30 a.m. – Tour will begin
The tour may have up to 15 participants.

Note: No collecting, no buckets, no pets (and no snacks during the tour). Please review the rules on the J V Fitzgerald Marine Reserve website.

Don't forget layers, sunscreen, water, and snacks for the tour as well as binoculars/camera! AND, use the restroom before going on the tour because there are no facilities on the reef.

DIRECTIONS:
J V Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is located in Moss Beach, CA, about 20 miles south of San Francisco on Highway 1, or 7 miles north of the city of Half Moon Bay.

From California Route 1, turn seaward on California Avenue in Moss Beach (left if Northbound, right if Southbound), and proceed roughly ¼ mile to the Reserve.

NOTE: The bridge to the reef is out, so please park at the Reserve parking lot, where you can use the restroom. Then we'll carpool down to the end of Cypress Avenue in Moss Beach so we can take the Seal Cove Trail steps down to the beach/reef.

HEAVY RAIN CANCELS:
If there is inclement weather, please call or text me on my cell one hour ahead of the tour for the status.

TOUR LEADER:
Ed Milner '79, cell phone (415) 260-2458.
