"What Will I Become?"

A Zoom Conversation Led by Director Lexie Bean ’13 With Obies Who Collaborated on the Award-winning Film that Explores the Experiences and Challenges Faced by the Trans Community and Loved Ones

Lexie Bean ’13 co-directed the documentary What Will I Become? that shares the stories of trans boys within a national landscape where suicide remains tragically prevalent. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 50% of transgender boys have attempted suicide. In the film, Lexie and co-director Logan Rozos explore the vulnerability of their transmasculine community. They delve into their own personal experiences, intertwining the stories of two young trans men who died by suicide. What Will I Become? considers the lives of these individuals, the environments that provide care, and spaces that lend to ostracization—asking why the transmasculine community is particularly vulnerable to living briefly and dying quietly.

What Will I Become? is a Berlinale-winning documentary that will be broadcast on public media next year. Nearly 20 alums and current students were involved in the documentary. Join the conversation in which Lexie and Obie collaborators will discuss the film project and to learn more about the joys and challenges of the trans community.
