White House Scholarship Fund, established December 1999
In 1947, White House was one of several small houses on the Oberlin campus serving as a dormitory for an overflow of male students. It had been painted white at one time, but was gray and rickety when occupied by the 25 men of White House. The small house environment made it easier to form lasting friendships.
After their retirements, the White House friends, with joy and pride of common experiences, established the White House Fund. The scholarship was envisioned as a reward for Oberlin students who most represent the balance of scholarship, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm for life, which the original members found to be the essence of White House.
